Biography of Steven Langer

Steven Langer began his career in immigration law before he even graduated law school. Starting in 1991, Mr. Langer assisted aliens held in detention by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service. Mr. Langer graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1992. He received the American Jurisprudence Award for Advanced Legal Research. Mr. Langer was also a member of the American Indian Law Review.

For his first five years as a licensed attorney, Mr. Langer spent significant time helping aliens subject to the Cuban Review Plan. He appeared before Cuban Review Panels. He also assisted an alien with the filing of a habeas corpus complaint challenging the legality of the alien's indefinite detention. Just prior to Mr. Langer arguing the case before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, the United States Attorney General agreed to release the alien from detention giving Mr. Langer his first victory in a habeas corpus case. Since that time, Mr. Langer has obtained the release of two other aliens through the habeas corpus litigation.

Mr. Langer became defense counsel for a number of large corporations in 1997. From 1998 to 2007, Mr. Langer represented individuals in their claims against insurance carriers and corporations. During this time, Mr. Langer appeared as lead counsel in several jury trials and innumerable bench trials. In 2006, Mr. Langer joined a firm which practiced in the area of immigration law. Mr. Langer saw a need in the Oklahoma City legal community for a lawyer practicing in immigration who possessed substantial trial experience as well as trial and appellate experience in federal court.

Mr. Langer opened his own firm in 2007. He currently focuses his immigration practice on the following areas: Family based immigration, removal defense, detainers and criminal defense of aliens. He also assists with consular matters. Mr. Langer also maintains a trial practice in the areas of injury claims and criminal defense.

Mr. Langer is a past president of the McClain County, Oklahoma, Bar Association. During his tenure, two members received prestigious Oklahoma Bar Association Awards. Mr. Langer regularly teaches continuing legal education to other attorneys. He is an Eagle Scout and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He was nominated to be an Associate District Judge in 2003.
